From Atascadero in Central California, head West on Hwy 41 (E.G. Lewis Hwy) for a 20 min 15.8 mile ride toward the blue Pacific Ocean. Ride along a sun dappled, winding road surrounded by farm houses and avocado orchards. Once you reach the bottom of the hill, turn right heading north to Cayucos, CA. Sip some wine at the Full Moon Tasting Room. Grab a soft taco made with smoked salmon or albacore tuna from Ruddell’s Smokehouse. Fish is for sale by the pound. Yes, it is that good. Head past your bike across the street for dessert at the Brown Butter Cookie Company. Melt in your mouth cookie goodness.
Morrow bay is 7 miles and 13 minutes south along Highway 1. Check out the Great American Fish Company, Frankie and Lola’s Front St Café, Libertine pub, The Galley Seafood Bar and Grill or Dutchman’s Seafood House. Be sure to glance over the railing into the water where you might find a mama Sea Otter with a pup in tow. – Submitted by Robert Paul Doran.
